The design of your home, however, is the first thing you should start with.
“If you want to really look good, you should have a nice design and you should go with a good brand,” says Dan Schoen, a design consultant and founder of Design By Design.
The biggest challenge when designing furniture, he says, is getting a feel for what the customer is looking for.
“The design should fit the space,” he says.
“You don’t want to have furniture that you have to adjust to.”
He says designers should make sure they’ve got the right color scheme and feel for the place they’re designing.
“I like to think about it as a visual language that tells you what it feels like to be a part of a place,” he adds.
“For me, I think it’s important that you can relate to the design because if you can’t, it’s going to be hard to make that connection.”
And that connection will ultimately help your home stand out from the crowd.
“We all need to relate to one another,” Schoen says.
For example, when I walk into a room and I see a chair, it feels great.
I don’t have to feel like I’m missing out.
“But if you’re like me and you don’t feel like you have any real connection to the person sitting there, then you’ll feel that you don, too,” he explains.
“So it’s all about feeling connected.”
