“The Medal of Honor,” as it is known, is awarded to individuals who have been killed or wounded while serving in the U.K. Armed Forces.
The award has become a symbol of honor in the country and is bestowed on individuals who serve the United States in an active or reserve capacity.
The Medal of Honour is awarded by the British government to individuals for their exemplary acts of valor and bravery in combat.
The medal is given to the recipient of a Medal of Distinction, and to those who have made extraordinary efforts to save and defend the United Kingdom from foreign invasion, conflict, or threat, or to achieve a significant victory against such threat or aggressor.
The President, Vice President, and Members of Congress receive the Medal of the Order of the British Empire (or equivalent award), and the Secretary of State and the Attorney General receive the Presidential Medal.
The Presidential Medal is awarded on the occasion of the official commencement of the U, K. Armed forces service as a unit or to the unit for which it was awarded.
The United Kingdom is the only NATO country to have awarded the Medal.
“The United States is proud to recognize the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces members in service to our country,” Secretary of Defense James Mattis said in a statement announcing the Medal’s commencement.
“Their service to their country has always been and will always be a source of pride and pride for us all.
The Honorable Secretary Mattis will personally deliver the award to President Trump as he formally takes office on January 20, 2021.
We stand ready to work with the incoming administration to ensure the Medal is honored by our nation.”
